Volcan Rincon de la Vieja

About Volcan Rincon de la Vieja

Volcan Rincon de la Vieja is a active stratovolcano. It appeared in Costa Rica about a million years ago and it translates into english as 'the corner of old lady'or 'the old ladys nook'. Very few population centers within a distance of 10km from the volcano. On a map its latitude and longitude is latitude:10 49.40 and its longitude:85 19.42. It's elevation is 1700m.

Climate

The climate of Rincon de la Vieja is quite warm...As you go up the slopes of the volcano, the conditions get progressively cooler and wetter.

Craters

Volcan Rincon de la Vieja is composed of 9 contigous volcanic craters.The main crater--Von Seebach, sometimes called the Rincón de la Vieja crater--still steams. Von Seebach has an eclispe shape, 500 metres of width and 100 metres of depth. On its bottom there is a hole with bumbling 250 Ceisius lava.
